Followers Prepare the Body of Jesus in the Tombby emmanuel_higgins

Mark 15:47

And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.

The watchers were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses, called the other Mary, together with the other women who followed Jesus. Mary Magdalene had once been overcome by demons and despair, but having been restored by Christ she had become a devoted follower who learned from Him, served Him, and stayed near Him through His burial. This watching belongs to the burial account when His body was at risk of being handled by soldiers and placed in a dishonored grave reserved for criminals condemned for opposition to Rome, which John had no influence with Pilate to prevent.

The women stayed until they saw His body laid in the tomb and the heavy stone placed at its entrance and rolled across it. After seeing His body placed there, they remained near His tomb in the evening in sorrow, grieving for the Teacher they loved. They were among the last to leave the cross and the tomb, and their care for His body continued despite grief and fear that His enemies might interfere. They need not have feared for His body, because angels watched the resting place and awaited the command to release Jesus from the grave.
