Jesus Speaks with a Man and His Friendsby GrahamWeir

Mark 7:33

And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;

After departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon and coming to the Sea of Galilee through the midst of Decapolis, Jesus was brought a man by a crowd that came to Him there. The man was deaf and had a stammering impediment in his speech. Jesus took him aside privately from the multitude or crowd.

This healing differed from His custom of restoring by a word only. He put His fingers into the man's ears, and spit and touched his tongue with saliva. His ears were opened and his tongue was loosed, so that his deafness and speech impediment were cured and he spoke plainly. Looking up to heaven, He sighed over ears that would not be open to the truth and tongues that refused to acknowledge the Redeemer. His attention to such small, personal acts in this healing proves His greatness and compassion.
