Mark 8:13

And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.

He withdrew with His disciples in order to keep teaching them beyond the reach of opposition. Once apart with them, He lifted their minds past their present poverty, humiliation, and suffering to His coming in glory. That coming would not be with the splendor of an earthly throne, but with the glory of God and the hosts of heaven, when every person will be rewarded according to his works.

For their encouragement He promised that some then standing with Him would not taste death until they see the Son of man coming in His kingdom. The disciples did not grasp His words, because their eyes were fixed on the nearer life of poverty, humiliation, and suffering and on glowing expectations of the Messiah exalted to the throne of David. Sadness oppressed them and doubt harassed them at the thought that the Son of God should live as a humble homeless wanderer and go voluntarily to Jerusalem to be despised, rejected, and put to death, leaving them in greater darkness than before He had revealed Himself to them.
