Mark 8:20

And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.

The question recalls the second miraculous feeding, when four thousand people were fed and seven baskets full of broken pieces were gathered afterward. That feeding occurred in Gentile territory, among a non-Jewish crowd. When asked to provide food on that occasion, the disciples responded with doubt about where enough could be found, showing they still did not trust Christ's power even though they had already witnessed Him feed a multitude. Their hesitation also sprang from Jewish prejudice, which made them unwilling to bring forward what little food they had for Gentiles.
