Jesus and the Boy Brought by His FatherBible World

Mark 9:15

And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.

In the morning on the plain at the foot of the mountain, Jesus came down with the three disciples after the night of communion with heavenly glory. The crowd there turned suddenly toward Him as He appeared, and ran to meet Him.

Their great amazement was awe at the light of heavenly glory still left upon the countenances of Jesus and His companions from the transfiguration. That light awed the beholders, and made the scribes draw back in fear. Running to Jesus, the people greeted Him with reverence and joy, turning away from the scribes who had been questioning and humiliating the nine disciples over their failure to cast a dumb spirit out of a father's son. They welcomed Him as He returned to minister among them.

Even as they welcomed Him, they were still in great perplexity and inclined to contempt over the disciples' defeat, which Jesus perceived.

The descent sets the glory just revealed on the mountain in contrast with the agony of a suffering child whom no mortal could relieve. In what follows, Jesus stoops to free the boy from Satan's power and restores him in mind and body to his father, showing redemption as the Divine One saving the lost. After the boy is freed from the demon, the people look on in astonishment while the boy and his father praise their Deliverer and the defeated scribes turn away.

The scene teaches that those who have beheld Christ's glory are not to remain only in spiritual times of illumination but to work among those who need liberation and deliverance from Satan. They are to serve others through faith, prayer, and self-sacrificing love.
