Matthew 1:1

The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

The opening record presents Jesus Christ as descended from Abraham and from David. That twofold sonship is what identifies Him as the promised Messiah. He is thereby made known as the Redeemer come through the promised lines. His lineage fulfills the prophecies that the Messiah would arise from those ancestors, meeting the Jewish expectation centered on them.

The predictions concerning Him were fulfilled in His life. They were fulfilled in His ministry. They were fulfilled in His death.
