Matthew 12:18
Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles. Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.
Matthew 12:18 identifies Jesus as God's chosen servant, His beloved in whom His soul is well pleased, upon whom God puts His Spirit. It was fulfilled when the Pharisees held counsel together how they might destroy Jesus, and Jesus withdrew Himself from thence. Great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all, and charged them that they should not make Him known. In the setting of threats He did not seek public acclaim, and this fulfills the prophecy about His gentle conduct and mission.
Anointed by the Spirit, He shows and brings judgment to the Gentiles, fulfilling the prophecy of His mission. His method is gentle and patient: He does not strive nor cry, nor lift His voice in the streets. He does not break the bruised reed and does not quench the smoking flax, till He sends forth judgment unto victory, and in His name shall the Gentiles trust. The verse means the work must not be bound about but the truth must go quickly to all the world in fulfilment of the divine commission.
True religion is living this word in practical life. Those who cooperate with Jesus Christ in this gentle, patient work for souls outside the church, especially those outside the Seventh-day Adventist church who need light, will realize all these promises fulfilled in their own experience. The verse lays upon every soul the duty to work with heart and soul and voice to win souls to the truth. There will be no excuse in the judgment for failing to do that duty.
