Matthew 22:32

I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

The declaration that God remains the God of Abraham and of Isaac and of Jacob after their deaths proves the resurrection of the dead, for His covenant relationship with them continues and therefore they must live again. To Him the dead are alive, because He counts His purpose for them as already accomplished. From Adam onward, beginning with Abel, through the last one to die, the dead saints will hear the voice of the Son of God, rise from their graves to immortal life, and belong to God as His people. He will be the God of His resurrected people, and they will share with Him a close and tender lasting relationship according to His plan.

Because He is the God of the living, His claim calls for serving the needs of living people, so money spent on monuments to the dead would better please Him if used to feed and help the hungry, starving, and dying poor. Because He is living and not dead, those who work for Him go forth with His living presence. They adapt themselves to the need of the time by preaching, colporteuring, talking and reading the truth, and holding Bible classes.
