Matthew 22:45

If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?

Prophecy gives the Messiah the title of David's son, which rightly identifies him as David's descendant. David, speaking by the Spirit of inspiration, called that coming Messiah his Lord. He is therefore David's son by human descent and David's Lord in his divine character, more than merely a human descendant. With this question Jesus tested the Pharisees to recognize his divinity as well as his Davidic descent, and they could not answer how he could be both son and Lord. Many who called Jesus the Son of David did not recognize that he was also the Son of God.

David foresaw Christ entering heaven and taking his place at God's right hand. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost testified that the crucified and risen Jesus had received authority as priest and king. That same outpouring showed him to be God's Anointed One over His people.
