Jesus Teaches on the Mount With Scenes From Matthewby emmanuel_higgins

Matthew 28:19

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

The risen Christ commands his followers to go and make disciples of every nation, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost and teaching them to observe all things he commanded, with his continual presence to the end of the world. The command rests on all power in heaven and earth given to him as Mediator and head of the church, gained through suffering and victory, and those sent go as co-laborers with God under its shield. With it comes the promise to remain always, giving wisdom, strength, guidance and success, and the gift of the Holy Spirit to seal workers, confirm truth and convert souls. The charge belongs not to the first disciples only but to every believer in every age to the close of time, to carry the work to the whole world until the end comes. Baptism in that threefold name is a solemn covenant in which the believer pledges death to sin and the world and obedience to God, and the Father, Son and Holy Ghost as three distinct living persons pledge power, grace and keeping to the obedient.

Wording and Historical Setting

The command is to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, teaching them to observe all things commanded, with the promise of continual presence to the end of the world. It rests on all power in heaven and earth given to Christ as heir of all things and equal with God, gained through suffering and conflict and victory over Satan, and it opens the work beyond Israel to every nation rather than restricting truth to one people. Given just before the ascension, it entrusts sharing the treasure of eternal life and the bread of life with all who need it, and every believer shares in that trust to give sacred truth to seekers and work together with God in turning people from darkness and unrighteousness to truth and righteousness, with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit pledging aid.

The words were spoken by the risen Christ after forty days with the disciples, on the appointed mountain in Galilee to the eleven who worshiped though some doubted. They were heard before about five hundred believers who saw the marks of crucifixion, as last parting words of his will just before the ascension when a cloud of angels received and escorted him to the city of God. The words were repeated again and again that the disciples might grasp their significance. They were preceded by night communion and followed by parting on Olivet and prayer and humbling in the upper chamber before Pentecost, with the full glory of the ascension veiled so they could endure and receive the Comforter, after which they returned to Jerusalem knowing with unclouded faith that Jesus is the Son of God.

The commission was announced when the sacrifice for man was full and complete and the conditions of the atonement fulfilled and the work he came to do accomplished. It was spoken a step from the heavenly throne on the way to be honored by angels and principalities and powers and to enter upon mediatorial work. Its timing after the resurrection was chosen so the facts of death and resurrection could be carried to all nations, and the power for that preaching comes not from the many workers but from Christ, with the Holy Ghost given for conversion of souls when selfishness, love of supremacy and differences are put away and believers become of one accord.

The verse repeats in another form the injunction to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature, so the disciples would grasp its meaning after death and resurrection and ascension. Go was the last word spoken to the disciples on earth and the last indication of his will while upon the earth, sending them out under the shield of omnipotence on the assurance that all power is his and that he is with them always even to the end. Christ's coming to them proves the sureness of his promise not to leave them comfortless but to come to them, and his first act in heaven corresponded with that expressed will when the Holy Spirit was sent in rich abundance, after which the apostles began in Jerusalem where three thousand were converted in a day. Ministers are therefore to preach the gospel to all nations and teach the things commanded, going forth to proclaim truth through faithful messengers.

The gospel was first to be carried to Israel as lost sheep to give another opportunity to accept, confess, repent and receive forgiveness only through Christ. Israel was entrusted with revealing God's character and uplifting Christ through sacrificial service, but its people used blessings for their own glory and withheld guidance and holy example, and its leaders rejected him. So he turned to gather other messengers to proclaim the simple gospel without ostentation in pure simplicity, and the disciples were first sent to Israel and if Jews received it they were to become messengers to Gentiles. After first bearing the message to the Jews they were commissioned to go into all the world and teach every nation, gathering all who believe into one church.

The disciples were slow to grasp that Gentiles were included because of Jewish upbringing and teaching and belief they alone as Abraham's heirs and children were heirs of the divine promise. They understood the wider scope only several years after the ascension. Their minds were expanded when conversions occurred in Samaria and among Samaritans without definite special effort, and among a Roman centurion, a Canaanite woman and all classes, showing Gentiles as fellow heirs longing for truth. That ended the Jew-Gentile distinction with no boundary to labor, foreshadowed already by Israel's calling through sacrifice lifting Christ before nations so idolaters turning to true worship could join his people.

Christian baptism in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit after profession of faith differs from John's baptism unto repentance. Jesus' disciples baptized those who professed faith using the threefold name, and the difference in wording and practice caused dispute between John's disciples and Jesus' disciples. The difference was explained by Paul to those knowing only John's baptism, who then believed, were baptized in Jesus' name and received the Spirit for mission in Ephesus and beyond.

Identifying with Christ begins with forsaking sins, then repentance, faith and baptism by immersion picturing burial and rising with Christ from the tomb. Those raised from the water profess they are dead to the world, buried in the likeness of his death and raised in the likeness of his resurrection to fulfil righteousness after his example. Baptism follows conversion in bringing people to Christ and should be administered solemnly and impressively, preferably in an open stream when possible. Rebaptism is not to be pressed on the newly come to faith nor elevated like the Sabbath, but belongs within teaching people the faith.

Healing the sick, casting out devils and the signs following believers are connected with the commission as the Spirit's power at work. The signs include speaking with new tongues, harmlessness from serpents and deadly things, and recovery of the sick through laying on of hands. Not all gifts are given to each believer, but the Spirit divides to every man severally as he wills according to need for the Lord's work. The promise is just as strong and trustworthy now as in apostolic days, and it is the privilege of God's children for faith to lay hold on all possible as an endorsement of faith, pointing to a worldwide field and proclaiming present truth and Christ as Saviour.

The charge to carry teaching beyond one place is seen when Wycliffe organized preachers throughout England to towns and countryside including aged, sick and poor. Making the New Testament available in English helped people receive that teaching to the nations.

Authority Promise and Spirit

The command stands on all power in heaven and earth given to Christ, boundless authority held as heir of all things and equal with God, won through suffering and conflict and victory over Satan, exercised as Mediator and as crucified and risen head of the church and minister of the true tabernacle, one with the Father with power to command angels, commanding all power and joining his sympathies and angelic agencies to the human agent. It was spoken as one above all powers and principalities with ample authority, standing but a step from the heavenly throne on the way to be honored by angels, principalities and powers and to enter mediatorial work, when sacrifice was full and complete and the conditions of the atonement fulfilled. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit pledge their aid to this work.

Those sent go under the shield of that omnipotence as co-laborers with the Redeemer and laborers together with God in saving the world and carrying out the plan of redemption. They are to shine the light of truth into the darkness of sin until it is expelled, those reflecting light receiving more light to reflect, bringing new power into the church. In this they assert his purchased claims, and each person added to the church is to help carry that work actively. Teaching all nations under his control is to be done in united action, blending different methods and God-given talents toward inspiring belief, with no man setting his own mind as standard, compelling conformity, criticizing fellow workers, or acting as dictator.

The promise to remain always even to the end is the most valuable legacy left to messengers going to the farthest bounds of the habitable globe to teach, instruct, and persuade by urging the Word of life upon attention. It secures help through all difficulties and trials, giving power for service, strength and grace when taken at his word in faith, keeping workers in the sunshine of his presence, guiding, comforting, sanctifying, sustaining, and giving success in speaking words that draw attention to Christ and turn minds from darkness to light and from sin to God. Human beings have no strength of themselves, so all strength comes through Christ, and the commission itself is the source of power and comfort, so obedient workers in connection with him cannot fail and are never forsaken. God requires nothing without giving power, and confirms the word with signs by the Spirit, for his promise is sure and his Word quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword.

The commission carries the promise of the Holy Spirit to act as Counsellor, giving power needed for successful accomplishment, sealing workers for preaching, confirming truth, and converting souls. After hearing it the disciples returned to Jerusalem knowing with unclouded faith that Jesus is the Son of God, and waited preparing themselves by prayer and humbling of heart until the baptism of the Spirit came. That abundant endowment was Christ's first heavenly act, petitioned as Advocate on high that disciples be endowed with the gift to do the work. It is received when selfishness, love of supremacy, and differences are put away and believers become of one accord and one mind, as evidenced at Pentecost when three thousand were converted in a day.

Christ as Redeemer and Mediator, himself filled with the Holy Spirit, delegated his own power and authority to his servants, ordaining a continuing succession to proclaim the gospel with authority derived from himself, unchanged today. As minister of holy things and head of the church he constantly sends messages to his people, gives the rich nutriment of sound doctrine to all true laborers, and teaches his faithful ambassadors in every sermon that speaks truth to the heart. Through disciples under the Spirit's unction he continues revealing God's character to the world, and the gospel ministry must therefore not hover over churches already knowing truth nor collect believers in one place but go out to all nations. He received the heavenly gift as an overflowing fountain to impart, asking only cooperation in his appointed way with supreme love to God and love to humanity as he loved, in constant watching, waiting, praying, working, and walking by faith. Those transformed by grace and filled with the Spirit are thus commissioned and equipped to carry salvation and make known his grace and truth through efforts and facilities in every part of the world, sharing the divine knowledge received by keeping his teachings in mind, heart, and practice.

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit seek and long for human channels through which to communicate divine principles of truth to the world. That worldwide work needs the power of God wherever believers are, and the Bible and the Bible alone produces it, working with all power in the receptive heart as the wisdom of God and the power of God. Conforming the will to the will of God lifts believers to great heights, while frivolity cumbers the church and makes it weak and indifferent.

Scope to All Nations

The command opens the work beyond Israel to every nation, people, language and class, rich and poor, learned and ignorant, high and lowly, Jew and Gentile, without restriction of caste or country. It breaks the rigid seclusion that had confined truth to one nation and throws open a wide door to the world, overturning Jewish exclusiveness that regarded others as heathen and giving a new and fuller meaning to prophecy. The faith bound to Christ is not to be the religion of the Jews only but of all nations, adapted to all peoples, so that the light of heaven shines in clear strong rays upon all inhabitants of the earth and full salvation is offered to all. The mission was so extensive that a few hundred shaken followers with limited views could scarcely comprehend it while superstition, tradition, bigotry and idolatry ruled the world.

All peoples must be reached without prejudice or racial exclusion, so that refusing colored people full fellowship violates the command. This lays responsibility on ministers and professing Christians to set plans in operation to educate the colored people of the South and to teach millions of ignorant and destitute people at home that Christ is their Creator and Redeemer. It applies to formerly enslaved people, many of whom remain in bondage to ignorance and sin, and it forbids holding aloof from this work or leaving it to a few while attending to foreign and medical missionary work, for little has been done to fulfil it though difficulties will confront whatever course is pursued. The power for its fulfilment is not lacking in the Word, whose power was proved in the wilderness by It is written, but failure reflects human disobedience.

The commission has worldwide scope and enduring reach to all lands and ages to win many to salvation, its field being the whole world and the whole human family without limit of time or place. It entrusts a world-wide message to all nations, tongues and peoples, requiring means placed in the hands of followers to sustain the struggle against darkness, and requiring every Christian to strive to the utmost to spread knowledge of truth so it controls life and transforms character. It is to be carried forward quickly from home to home into new regions until the earth is reached, reaching beyond the churches even into unpromising places, with those who teach first receiving the Holy Spirit and passing on what they received. In moral darkness when souls are enslaved by error and the false Sabbath is exalted, those knowing present truth must be wide awake and working with energy and sacrifice, for the day is far spent and night comes when no man can work. Humble uneducated fishermen were chosen and taught truth so their words and works would have world-changing results, and claiming to fulfil the commission while the Southern states are left undone brings reproach.

Teaching all nations is a witness to all nations, and when the gospel of the kingdom has been preached to every nation, kindred, tongue and people the end will come and the Saviour will return in power and glory. This requires proclaiming to all the world the truths by which all will be judged, establishing the work across America with memorials in many cities and centers in many places instead of centering in one place, done with Christ present always even to the end. The same commission has impelled men and women in every age since the first coming to go as missionaries to the ends of the earth with knowledge of truth to other countries. It calls the whole church to active service, not ordained ministers or pulpit preachers only, with members working according to ability in needy fields at home and abroad, and when fulfilled the gospel will have gone to all the world and Christ will return.

Churches fail this worldwide scope when they lack Christian zeal to carry the light of sacred truth to needy people, for no few places only were to receive it but every nation. The work is to go to highways, hedges and byways bearing truth and sowing seeds so souls are brought to faith and every nation, tongue and people is aroused to knowledge of truth, with schools developing missionaries to carry it forward to honor God. The work in America must be carried in a way that is a strength and help to those proclaiming the message in distant countries.

Disciples are sent beyond homes and countries to carry the work throughout the world, even to the uttermost parts of the earth and the farthest parts of the inhabited world. This sending continues in our time, with every person responsible to take part and with assurance that Christ will be present and never forsake those laboring in faith.

Teaching and Making Disciples

To teach all nations is to persuade people to become disciples, awakening sinners dead in trespasses and sins and rousing them from spiritual sleep to turn from darkness and Satan's power and from selfishness and sin to God and to righteousness and obedience. It is to show people how to find the way to heaven by opening the Word and opening the Scriptures to them, with saving souls as the central duty that convicts and converts and warns cities not yet reached. The work belongs to places where truth has not been proclaimed and is to reach every nation with the gospel and the warning of the soon coming, translated into every language, and those who receive the word share responsibility for it with divine efficiency promised to their labor. Studied as the textbook of life it keeps out baseless theories and causes truth to be proclaimed with power so souls are converted.

Teaching means teaching only what was commanded and the same things learned from Christ, practical godliness and all things commanded, rather than human teachings or speculative theories and non-essential controversies. The labor is divided by ability for elementary and advanced lessons and is continued in Spirit-led teaching with fellowship and meals and prayer, with hearts open to the Spirit's impressions. Going forth with Bibles in hand to highways and byways, especially from large centers, to open Scripture and warn of what is coming upon the world is the work in the world, to occupy more and still more of the time of God's servants.

Converts are to be taught to observe all things commanded, not merely a few, as found in His Word, and keeping God's commandments and the faith of Jesus is the central theme. Baptism begins rather than completes instruction, and this teaching of observance is essential to eternal life. Neglect of this teaching work weakens the church, and plans to keep the church alive without doing it do harm, whereas when it is done Christ works with the workers and the Spirit confirms truth under God's supervision so preaching is accompanied with results because the promise is sure and the Word is quick and powerful. The commission ordains a continuing succession to proclaim with authority derived from Christ Himself, and His parting promise to be present to the end holds unchanged today.

Proclaiming the truth for this time is part of the work, accomplished through Christ's ministry and through His ministers. It requires dwelling on the great testing truths for this time and leading minds to the great principles of God's law and to what is written in the law and how to inherit eternal life by loving God with all heart, soul, strength and mind and neighbor as self, forbidding turning aside to side issues, false doctrines and irrelevant subjects. It includes proclaiming the third angel's message with the full rays of present truth, including in Washington the capital and heart of the nation so lawmakers understand God's law which lies at the foundation of all right laws, with neglect displeasing God and bringing great loss. It requires setting forth the Sabbath message with clearness and power in every place, leaving no place unwarned and no worldly enterprise allowed to displace it.

Carrying it out means going out to people rather than waiting for them to come, working earnestly for them and offering mercy simply without ostentation or show, since influence for good is greater the less display is relied on. It follows the pattern of opening Moses and the prophets concerning Himself and explaining prophecy, and of tracing history from Adam through prophecy to Christ and Him crucified, calling sinners to repent and turn to God and in every discourse magnifying Christ as exalted and all in all. It means uplifting a crucified and risen Saviour before those without God and without hope, carrying pardon through Christ to every nation, kindred, tongue and people and not merely in a few places, by pastors, teachers and evangelists proclaiming salvation from door to door with clear decided stirring utterances and not tame lifeless ones, giving warning to escape and showing in Christians the evidence of Christianity's power through messages of mercy. Obedience includes visiting people and conducting simple lively Bible readings in many places.

Those who teach are to treat the work as sacred and present it with solemnity and reverence as those accountable to God for souls facing life and death, seeking wisdom from heaven as converted thoughtful workers who open God's Word. Christ is with the people gathered to hear, heavenly agents work with the human teacher to impress hearers, and His words carry weight and divine power on hearts. No one is to be appointed to stay in one place, but those feeling the burden are to go where people do not know truth rather than where they know as much, laying hold of souls and drawing them wisely, with an angel by the side and Christ's promised presence to the end so word and work prosper.

Teaching is for all nations across language barriers, with people of every nationality to be enlightened and educated so they can join the work, and literature translated into many languages helps carry it throughout the world. God in providence brings men of other nations to the very doors to be taught truth more perfectly so they are qualified to do a work otherwise impossible in getting light before men of other tongues, requiring quickly discerning every opening providence and making the most of every advantage within reach. Learning other languages prepares men and women for service in preaching and translating so people of other nations can be reached, and teachers are to use abilities and opportunities in this service.

Leading to truth through reading can convert one person, whole families and neighborhoods without ever seeing a believer. Such teaching leads those who accept the Sabbath to ask for a minister to come and baptize them and their interested neighbors.

Baptism in Threefold Name

Baptism is a solemn rite instituted by Christ in which a person testifies to cleansing from past sins and pledges before the three heavenly powers to do God's will, rising from the watery grave as a new creature dead to the world and committed to life with Christ. It imprints the sacred name of Father, Son and Holy Ghost at the beginning of Christian life, with the three heavenly persons present, consecrating abilities to God's service in covenant relation with heaven. It is a pledge to leave idolatrous practices and live for Christ, with God's sign making the baptized members of His royal family before angels and people. It carries promise to leave the former disposition, follow Christ, share His life and show His character in patient unselfish conduct, with the three highest powers pledging themselves to the baptized.

Baptism signifies burial with Christ and resurrection to newness of life, being dead to sin and raised to live for God. Those baptized into Christ are to rise to newness and represent His life while being taught to observe all His commands. They can rely on the pledge of the three highest powers when downcast or oppressed, needing not obey the world, follow its fashions or be corrupted by its society. They give themselves up to die to the world, and the three authorities of heaven carry them through temptations and trials if they obey. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit aid the unselfish work of turning from selfishness and darkness to righteousness and God, with Christ's presence as basis of success and growing blessing in doing good.

Being baptized enters a cooperative covenant in which Father, Son and Holy Ghost pledge power, support, grace and strength to be with the obedient believer through temptations, trials, conflicts with darkness and oppression. Going down and rising marks the call to live a new life in cooperation with these powers rather than relying on self-sufficiency, while still using intelligence, resisting temptation and guarding appetite. Their cooperation does not remove duty to resist harmful choices. Christ as Mediator grounds the work and promises to guide, comfort, sanctify and sustain those who preach and lead from sin to obedience and righteousness. Those who obey His teaching receive blessings and, using them to do good, receive greater blessings.

Baptism admits those accepting forgiveness to church fellowship as open profession of faith, after which changed lives display Christ and represent heaven. It dedicates converted people to God whose name is manifested as The Lord our Righteousness, necessary before entering the church and God's spiritual kingdom. It is performed in the solemn rite with the words of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who pledge to cooperate in living the new life, burying with Christ and raising to seek things above and praise Him. In it people accept Christ and commit to make every sacrifice following His example. Heaven is pledged to help and strengthen wherever they are those who look to the Author and Finisher of faith, trusting the Spirit as active divine power sent to earth as well as Father and Son.

Baptismal vows place members under the control and authority of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Entering the church through baptism pledges death to the world and ceasing to follow worldly methods and practices. It is a solemn vow to be separate, live for Christ and remain loyal and obedient, buried with Christ, with the three powers as strength and efficiency when faithful. In presence of the three the follower pledges to be dead to the world and its temptations and rise to live in obedience to God's requirements. It marks standing on the Lord's side and pledging service, representing Christ's life with power and grace to resist temptation, rising as resurrection to new life where the old sinful life is dead and Christ's character is practiced. It commits each one joining God's family to rely on the three mighty powers for help in every emergency, keep following the Lord and seek things above, though withdrawing from the Spirit can turn to serving the enemy.

The pledge avouches Jehovah as Ruler and merges life into the three great agencies, lived in faithful obedience to God's law and every word from His mouth, acknowledging covenant, dying to self with life hidden with Christ, walking in newness and new birth, seeking things above. It registers oath of allegiance to renounce the world, observe laws and statutes of God's kingdom, seek His honor, walk in newness, no longer following human traditions or dishonest methods, with grace and power to fulfil all righteousness given to those true. It is solemn covenant to devote life to service and take the Christian name to live Christ's life, while the three cooperate and work in and through the baptized, buried with Christ to seek things above at God's right hand. Those baptized become royal family with the three pledging to keep, protect and help at every step as they trust and cooperate, maintaining vows by representing Christ and relying on promised help for victory. At baptism life is hidden with Christ, vowed before heaven to die to the world and be buried then rise, showing by life a work for God's glory to enlighten others. It is sacred vow to live in close communion, renouncing sin and Satan, raised by God's power, with reason, affections, speech, possessions and all entrusted anew for service, cross-bearing and self-denial.

The vow is solemn and unbreakable, not to be entered without careful prayerful thought and sustained step-by-step instruction, especially of youth, in its obligations to devote life to service and take the Christian name, while the three pledge to cooperate and work in and through the baptized. Candidates must first be clearly instructed in meaning and solemnity, and taught to observe everything commanded. The commission is to teach all nations, not merely preach occasional sermons, with every class receiving sustained instruction from wise teachers and Christ's presence accompanying cooperating workers in neglected fields. Accepting Christ as Saviour in baptism gives power to become sons of God, buries and raises to newness to live Christ's life and seek things above.

At baptism all heaven and the heavenly universe witness vows to walk in newness after Christ's example, uniting the baptized with heaven. The Father, Son and Holy Ghost as three representatives of heavenly authority and highest powers behold and accept the vows of truly converted men and women. Those baptized enter covenant with Christ and become adopted children, cleansed by the Word through regenerating power with angels ministering, pledging to be active church members standing against evil, turning from worldly desires and exerting godly influence through sanctifying work. Those truly converted are raised in likeness of resurrection to new life, and faithful obedience makes calling and election sure. The Godhead approves and pledges power to honor God, signifying burial and rising, changing the heart to enable fellowship with Christ.

Baptism dedicates abilities to God's service, entrusts the person to the Lord, and sets apart to take part in Christ's work including serving as missionaries bringing healing and the message of life. Those baptized can present the three heavenly persons as power and efficiency in missionary work of making disciples. It is ordination to bear fruit, with the three pledging to keep the baptized so long as united to Christ the vine. It pledges doing all possible to build up the church in regular systematic labor, improving every means of grace instead of spectating, required by love and loyalty to the Redeemer and true manhood and womanhood. It commits to carry a burden for the unsaved, with sufficiency and keeping power to those keeping the vow, living by faith working through love, rescuing from deception, dead to the world and risen to work with Christ to save souls.

Forgetting baptismal power calls for renewed hold on heavenly powers so faith need not be feeble, for heaven places resources at command to overcome. The conflict is won not in human strength but in strength of the mighty powers who promised to lead to victory, pledged in presence of the three most powerful agencies to walk in newness with endowment of the Holy Spirit. Life comes only as members constantly depend, call on God in faith and labor as co-laborers with all heaven at command, with the Spirit given in proportion to need so the one with Christ may expect sinners converted through faithful labor and prayer. When the vow is taken divine help is pledged, the three ready to work, omnipotent help given to small human strength bringing needs daily to grace and using resources by faith.

The triune pledge lays the whole life, body, mind and soul to be dead to the world and selfishness and subordinate to God's will. It pledges living Christ's life, no longer fostering temperament or cherishing natural inclinations. It is solemn vow before the three to do nothing bringing evil report on the Christian name and to discourage pride, covetousness and unbelief, under sacred obligation as bought with Christ's blood to be holy. Keeping it grows self-distrust, dependence on God, reverence and love for the Saviour, sense of sonship, pardon and elevation through Christ's blood, spirituality, daily communion, treasure of scriptural knowledge, fellowship with Father and Son, knowledge of divine will and living witness with increasing love. It is unbreakable pledge placing immeasurable grace and power of the three at disposal for the church in the home, so parents must educate themselves by it, bring it into the home, make an exemplary Christian home and ask in living faith in Christ's name for grace to overcome.

Baptizing belongs to work done in Christ's name as authority, bond of unity and source of success directing attention to Him. Those who baptize go after selection, proof of fitness, inquiry of God and setting apart by prayer and laying on of hands with Spirit sanction and church approval. Workers leading to acceptance and evidence of true conversion are to baptize, applying to ministers, elders, physicians, teachers, canvassers and evangelists in new remote places, with sympathy and cooperation of those at home. Care for the body opens way to the soul. The commission rests on ministers as ambassadors under solemn charge requiring converting power, first lessons in Christ's school, sober thoughtful co-working with God, reverent opening of the Word, listening for instruction, asking heavenly wisdom and accounting to God between the living and the dead.

Father Son and Spirit

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are three distinct living persons, three great personal powers and the highest authorities of heaven. The Father is a personal God, the Son is a personal Prince and Saviour, and the Holy Ghost sent from heaven represents Christ as the active divine Comforter in all the fulness of the Godhead, to be trusted as fully as the Father and the Son. Christ commands that all nations be brought into discipleship by teaching the truth of the gospel and baptizing in that threefold name, and He grounds that work in His own authority as Mediator between God and humanity. To teach the nations is to persuade people to become His disciples, awakening sinners dead in trespasses from spiritual sleep and turning them from darkness, Satan's power, selfishness and sin to God, righteousness and obedience to all He commanded. Those who obey receive His promised guidance, comfort, sanctifying and sustaining presence as the basis of success, and as they use blessings to do good they receive still greater blessings. Baptism in that name marks giving up self to die to the world and rising to a new life in cooperation with these powers rather than in self-sufficiency, and they are pledged to be with and carry through temptation and trial all who do what they can, live in right relation to God, resist temptation, guard appetite and use intelligence to resist harmful choice.

Named together, they are the three highest powers in heaven working through believers as they carry Christ's work and present truth to the world. Believers are to cooperate with them and work together with God, and Christ's work is to be carried out under His control and through His Holy Spirit, bringing efficiency and power to God's people and church. Their pledged power belongs to the people and the church for this teaching and baptizing of all nations.

Their presence is pledged to be with each striving believer, imparting grace and strength to those who watch and pray and purify the soul by obedience to the truth. They thereby enable believers to lead others to accept Christ by faith. As the three great powers of heaven they take supervision of believers and care for them to the end of time.

Advance in God's work comes only in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and Christian work advances in that name. That life in their name brings blessed unity to those who are truly God's children. Those living in that unity never by word or act lead anyone to doubt the distinct personality of God, nor the sanctuary and its ministry.

They are united in carrying forward the great work of redemption in every soul emptied of self, showing God is personal as those to whom the Lord spoke in ancient times knew and declared. Spoken by Christ with Mediatorial authority, they are loving, powerful agents in representing God to the world. The form of baptism impresses that sacred name upon the believer, imprints it at the beginning of the Christian life, and brings the eternal Godhead into covenant relation with the new life. The three greatest representatives of heavenly authority witness the vows to stand under Christ's banner apart from the world's customs and fashions, to live as Christ lived and to consecrate all abilities to serve God and represent them, and they pledge their aid and heavenly power to work together with human agents so that character is shaped, the divine nature is shared and the work is done in strength from above.

People Commissioned Through Time

The commission to teach all nations and baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost was given just before the ascension as a trust of eternal life and the bread of life to be shared with all in need, and it belongs not to the first disciples and apostles alone but to every believer in every age to the close of time. It rests on men, women, children, speakers, teachers, students, medical missionaries and leaders, and all to whom heavenly inspiration has come are put in trust with it, for no man confers it and to accept Christ is to accept it. It ordains a succession that continues through all time, including humble, uneducated and limited-talent believers moved by the Spirit, with increased light in the last days, as those who receive light carry it to those in darkness and work together with God.

It alone proves perpetuity through the whole Christian age, for on the authority of all power given to Christ the ministers are to go, teach, baptize in the threefold name, and teach observance of all things commanded, with His presence always even to the end of the world. As long as sinners remain the gospel is to be preached, faith is required, baptism continues as a perpetual ordinance still administered in the threefold name because the commission requires it, salvation is held out as long as sinners may be saved, and spiritual aid and gifts run parallel with these without proof of restriction to any particular age. The promise to the end shows preaching and belief of the primitive gospel continue to receive the same spiritual aid beyond the apostles and primitive church, the gifts having been lost through apostasy and to be revived with return to primitive faith and practice. The command remains binding nearly nineteen centuries later and is to be carried forward to completion, with the closing invitation and last warning going to the world and everyone who has received light required to help spread it.

Christ chose humble uneducated fishermen and through three years with Him educated and qualified them in lessons of truth so their words and works would have world-changing effects. The commission was laid on uneducated Galilean fishermen including Simon, Andrew, James and John, fulfilling the promise to make them fishers of men to repeat His lessons to all peoples, nations and tongues. He also educated His church by sending forth the seventy to make piety diffusive, enlarging labor until it belts the world, ending the Jew-Gentile distinction so there is no boundary to labor, calling workers from small circles and selfish limits to see the world as able to be enlightened and lay hold on immortality through faith, bringing every power into exercise to deliver souls from Satan's temptations and snares.

God's power enabled even unlearned fishermen to spread His teachings to all lands and all ages, winning many to salvation, carrying out the work and preparing others to continue it after them. The disciples did not yet grasp its full extent or lasting scope, that it would continue through successors to the end of time, not in human strength but in the strength of the Holy Ghost. Beginning in Jerusalem as eyewitnesses to Jesus and His resurrection, explaining fulfilled prophecies and offering salvation even to rejecters with confirming signs and miracles, the apostles' testimony carried the gospel to all nations. The first workers formed could gather more who in turn could educate and shape others, so the work grew from few to many and spread widely.

The church is God's appointed agency for humanity's spiritual recovery, formed and united by the final charge and promise before the ascension, organized for this work and calling followers to wholehearted consecration. The commission to carry the gospel to the world appoints the church to this work, and every Christian is responsible to share received light according to ability and opportunity, supporting by means, sympathy and prayers where personal going is impossible. All who join through sacred vows pledge to work with Christ for salvation of others, and all belonging to the church are commanded to shine, each accountable for those within reach in darkness of unbelief. Neglect means lost opportunities to save souls and hinders saving work and the advancement of the kingdom near and far.

Every ordained minister bears the commission to teach all nations and baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit as a high and sacred calling adding many souls to the fold when properly done. It cannot be done by mere speaking or without preparation and true conversion, but requires laboring as Christ labored with whole heart, mind, soul and strength intelligently and earnestly, with thought, zeal, prudence, capability and Christ's character, constantly increasing in efficiency and grace for larger results. It forbids managing finances, sitting on committees and boards, traveling to business meetings, deciding common business questions belonging to able businessmen, and taking financial burdens whose neglect of the gospel commission dishonors God. It forbids turning aside to side issues, false doctrines, non-essential controversies, flat-world theory and irrelevant subjects, new theories, questioning and criticizing the Word, controversy over Scripture and denials of established truth that consume time and create strife, requiring instead the plain Thus saith the Lord, the message given, and the great testing truths for this time with the principles of God's law and loving God wholly and neighbor as self.

Every disciple including lay members, youth and children is to take active part in needy fields at home and abroad, using talents, voices, influence, time and means to share truth with neighbors rather than depend on ministers, which burden carried helps them grow and strengthens faith. Whatever the calling, first interest is to win souls by working for individuals where congregational preaching is impossible, communicating received instruction and ministering to sin-sick souls weighed down by guilt, wrongdoing, unrest and dissatisfaction, not by preaching alone but by relieving the sick and suffering, helping the needy, and comforting the desponding and those of little faith. The charge continues through the church today with Christ pledged as strength, revealing His character and love as God works with witnesses and gives power, calling for a missionary spirit and selfless concern for the unreached beginning with those nearby, even coworkers in institutions led to faithful service.

Ordinary humble workers not trusting great gifts but trusting God in simplicity are commanded to obedience with apostles, going forth to win souls and warn in highways and byways, spending and being spent, praying perseveringly to bring souls to the cross. They work under ministration of angels and moved by the Spirit, and God works with them when they do their best humbly and sincerely. The Spirit may call them from usual work to proclaim the last message of mercy for conversion of sinners and glory of God, and they are to be strengthened, encouraged, prepared, equipped, respected and supported in prayer as fast as possible so success crowns efforts, rather than hindered, scorned or ridiculed. In a peculiar sense they bear fruit equal to apostles as trees of the Lord's planting, receive reward in this life and glorious reward hereafter, and share the Saviour's joy as they sow and gather into fellowship.

Success depends on the Spirit which has lost none of its efficiency, sought by waiting and praying together until empowering and converting power is felt for the worldwide mission of saving souls. Christ has power for fulfillment as proved in the wilderness when armed with It is written He met and overcame the strongest temptations, so the commission can still be fulfilled despite dishonoring conditions. Failure lies not in less power in the Word but in disobedience of God's people and men's choice, shown by the present condition of the world and the Southern field. That responsibility lays on gospel ministers to set plans in operation to educate the colored people of the South and teach millions of ignorant destitute at home that Christ is Creator and Redeemer, forbidding aloofness or leaving it to a few while attending to foreign and medical missionary work, and requiring solid work with all forces in dark, diseased, neglected places.

Carrying Out Mission Worldwide

It is the missionary charter authorizing ambassadors to go to people rather than wait, establishing churches everywhere, going to highways, byways, cities, villages, and neglected and new fields instead of settling in one place or tying money and workers in one center. Going in the fear of the Lord to unworked fields belongs to the command to teach all nations and baptize and teach observance, with help from on high and continual presence to the end. It forbids building a great central institution, gathering workers for years in college or seminaries for classics, waiting on well-to-do in a large center, colonizing strong centers while fields are neglected, or confining youth to commercial enterprises. Instead the circle is continually enlarged into regions beyond with small plants and communities in cities and outside cities, breaking large centers, with youth sent two and two as gospel medical missionaries depending on God, scattering publications, praying for the sick and using nature's remedies not drugs. The message must not be restricted or held back but reach wherever the way is open.

It directs work in nearby communities, every American city and regions beyond, unworked cities, cities near Loma Linda such as Redlands, neighbors and non-churchgoers, one's own neighborhood, Nashville where darkness shall see light, and forbids neglecting Washington where memorials, present truth, third angel's message, God's law and a sanitarium are required. The commission belongs to believers now and sends them to cities where no memorials have been established and to people around them, especially those who do not attend church, by efforts such as open-air meetings, with strength and blessing for speaking so all can hear. It calls for foreign fields and far countries including Africa, China, India, islands of the sea and foreigners of many languages in American cities, gathering means to send men abroad and reaching representatives at home, with ships helping including seamen. The work calls for workers willing to go even to foreign countries to those in spiritual darkness, and refusing to help advance it with means risks separation from God.

It continues Christ's work of relieving suffering tortured by Satan through sanitariums healing without drugs by living faith, reading the Word, inspiring faith, praying by the sick and talking faith, bringing many conversions, and appoints small groups as evangelists sharing truth in conversation and publications and teaching health and disease prevention. Medical missionary work must be done in His way with His words repeated and no human devisings brought in, joined with proclaiming the gospel rather than separated from it or placed above the ministry. It is advanced by publications in many languages and living preachers in person, including publishing houses, literature distribution, translation across barriers, bringing men of other tongues to prepare literature, sending books, papers and tracts where no minister can go, and circulating truth about the soon coming in every language. God moves upon men of other tongues and brings them within reach of the office of publication so managers can use their services to prepare literature that raises interest and inquiry among other nations.

It sends self-supporting missionaries to begin small and enlarge under the Spirit, going two or more without promised support, praying, singing, teaching, canvassing into families, gaining experience through helplessness and finding favor among rich and poor. Believing families are to settle with belongings in towns, country and regions beyond where truth never was. It is carried when students leave school to teach what they learned, children and youth receive clear instruction from converted teachers, and schools prepare students to carry light home and serve. Christian schools are designed to develop trained workers with cultivated talents, and youth are called to enter and quickly fit for service. Fulfilling it must be supported by tithes, liberal offerings and self-denial, forbids retrenchment, requires educating, sending and sustaining workers so enterprises expand, and warns that refusing to help risks separation from God. Expense must never hinder it for means are lent to send truth, and those unable to go personally can support with means, sympathy and prayers according to ability and opportunity.

Teaching all nations under his control requires united action blending methods and talents with no self-exaltation, envy, jealousy, selfishness or supremacy-seeking, speaking the same things and striving in sanctification so unity convinces the world. No man sets his mind as standard, compels conformity, criticizes fellow workers or acts as dictator, for a different part is given to each and the whole is never committed to one man. It requires putting every capability to use, studying Christ's life and methods, subjection of will, wearing his yoke of meekness, seeking wisdom, depending on him, self-denial and undivided service without struggling for mastery. Working in his lines without theatrical display or waste means bands in every part of a city counseling for inexpensive work with charts and printed synopses and open-air meetings, keeping the spiritual phase uppermost and remembering many other places are yet to be worked.

It requires being purified, sanctified and transformed first, pledging to live and teach truth, becoming consecrated channels of heavenly life under the Spirit and drawing clear distinction by converted lives. Acquaintance with truth is the only means of sanctification, and success rewards obedience as his Word proves quick and powerful. Neglecting this work weakens the church, and plans to keep the church alive without doing it do harm. It charges those acknowledging Christ and baptized to call others to repentance and baptize all accepting forgiveness, diligently preparing youth to share with darkness, continuing without release to the end. Those receiving light pass it on, use opportunities to draw others, and impart sacred truth using resources after Christ's humble unselfish example, winning souls and bringing blessing.

It commissions proclaiming salvation through a pardoning Saviour to seek the lost, forming and strengthening churches through hardship, valuing each soul above the world, using all powers with sympathy and sacrifice including publications. Converts become workers to recover the lost, laboring with tender sympathy and love for people in danger of being lost, shining light into sin's darkness until expelled. It gives soul-winning as work rather than leaving people unwarned, exercising spiritual faculties by participation, letting Christ's sacrifice shine through righteous deeds. Neglect brings judgment, and following it would have begun God-glorifying work in many places instead of hindering started work. It means thorough worldwide work leaving nothing undone in every place and country, helping ministers, establishing a school in every place and sanitariums in many places, doing all with thoroughness, order, economy and self-sacrifice after Christ's example, rejecting high wages, display and extravagance. Treasury money is for new destitute fields, and taking highest wages deprives fellow laborers, requiring humility, economy and lower wages with highest reward to faithful unselfish workers.

It calls for broader views sowing beside all waters in cities, villages and all the world including large American cities and distant fields, carrying present truth especially the fourth commandment to test the world in humility without speaking of impossibilities. The church must keep expanding city to city and nation to nation as a light organizing a great movement to win multitudes, with trials purifying and strengthening for it. It means leaving comfortable settings for spiritual darkness rather than limiting to those knowing truth, consecrating means and accepting reproach. It means not staying where truth is known but lifting the standard where unknown, making new plants beyond rather than building upon building in one place. It belongs to the plan for constant advance adding territory until the last message belts the world as leading interest, forbidding selfish use of means, holding ministry of the word first among agencies and medical work as hand under head not independent consuming means.

It stands unchanged with no new plan, requiring carrying truth to poverty-stricken foreign fields rather than consuming all on domestic slum work the world would do, never separating health gospel from word ministry after Christ's example, and staying awake to prepare for the second coming. It requires going outside churches to every creature because the world perishes, with privilege of adding a star to Christ's crown by freeing a bound soul. Marriage can strengthen usefulness as joint ministry to win people. It entrusts the highest work ever given to mortals to go to struggling doubting souls knowing God's will and the Son's sacrifice, give invitation to bring them near God and dedicate the whole being in childlike service under the Spirit as those bought by death, with angels sustaining to overcome and distinguish sacred from common. It appoints ministers to soul-work opening new fields and raising churches, and commissions followers to sow truth of special importance in closing scenes as the Spirit works on hearts. Going in Christ's name they may labor differently with contributions forming harmony. It gives the duty to take gospel light to every nation which none are excused from, with God using believers to answer seekers' prayers, and with personal service taking the living Word to every country and corner. It is a pattern for workers sent to many places to teach Scripture and share salvation through personal service, prayer and Bible songs, and to repeat Christ's lessons to all peoples.

Urgency Prophecy and Faithfulness

The worldwide work prepares the way for the coming, proclaiming present truth and the warning of the soon coming with urgency because the end is at hand and wickedness increases as in Noah's days, uplifting a crucified and risen Saviour before the hopeless, connected with the third angel's message in every language and in Washington where lawmakers should understand God's law, taking priority by means, tithes, self-denial and sacrifice.
It commissions present truth and the last message of mercy to a perishing race to prepare to stand in the Lord's day, including a danger-arousing message leading to obey God's law and health reform, to arouse preparation to meet God.
It commands the closing work of giving God's last warning to a sinful unwarned world lying in wickedness, entering places never entered rather than going over same ground and meeting perishing needs rather than indifference, and that call is urgent because time is short and the coming is near.
It means thorough warning now because prophetic history is far advanced, the end is at hand, time short, much undone to prepare a people to stand, requiring more laborers and sending truth to dark corners; in moral darkness with the false Sabbath exalted, those knowing present truth must strive utmost planting truth to control life and transform character before night comes when none can work.

The very life of the church depends on faithfulness to it, with taking Christ's yoke a first condition of power; neglect brings feebleness and decay as love wanes without labor, leaving cities unwarned and many unreached who would have heeded.
After hearing it disciples returned to Jerusalem with unclouded faith that Jesus is God's Son and waited in prayer until the Spirit came; the apostles began in Jerusalem as eyewitnesses explaining fulfilled prophecies and offering salvation even to rejecters with signs, and persecution scattered believers preaching everywhere when Jerusalem risked focusing on self-protection.
The disciples fulfilled it with the Spirit carrying the gospel to every nation within a generation in pure simplicity calling to repentance and forgiveness only through Christ, reaching every nation under heaven and carrying Christ's teaching able to be heard by many countries into lands and households.
It designates what should be done so a commandment-keeping people doing his work carry mission to all nations, impelling men and women in every age since Christ to go to earth's ends at great cost with others following the fallen until new lands are reached.

It remains binding nearly nineteen centuries later and in 1907, calling volunteers in American cities and foreign fields with the Spirit moving people, to go as missionaries into homes and churches teaching present truth with trained members teaching the inexperienced.
The work is too precious to leave for other calls and not to stop amid overturning or controversy, but to be repeated until darkness is expelled; workers are to repent of neglect, take up neglected fields, move in faith to untried places, encourage humble workers, and trust Christ kept in his sunshine since nothing is accomplished without his power.
It calls for going in fear of the Lord with courage, hope and faith from assurance of authority and presence, including heathen lands, working courageously while awaiting return and proclaiming throughout earth; disciples were to execute it with courage despite reproach, imprisonment and death with the Spirit strengthening.
Neglecting it weakens the church, and plans to keep the church alive without doing it do harm, so it condemns clustering, hovering over churches knowing truth, collecting believers, idleness, slumber, lack of faith, and leaving cities unworked while building large centers in few places.

Selfishness as the world's sin become the church's sin prevents receiving these words solemnly, while confusion, unsanctified listlessness and feeble efforts hinder and prevent blessing; neglecting cities calls for humility and repentance, and short time urges humble prayerful workers rather than eloquent speakers.
It is Christ's express command not to be disregarded, entrusting eternal truths to those in sin's bondage, fulfilled now by proclaiming the last message with voice, pen and Spirit power.
It means the special work is to carry an unpopular message, not to erect city buildings inviting the depraved to free food, beds and treatment or establish charity-supported indiscriminate work; answering it tests enterprise, which the great Chicago enterprise does not answer.
It requires carrying gospel work forward in many places, not fulfilled when people turn from supporting work or use time and money to impede it; carrying it puts new vital force reaching discerning senses alarmed at disobedience and establishing truth in many places, shining brighter the closer examined though scorned.

It calls every church to greater earnestness and provision for training and sending more foreign laborers, including those knowing tongues without learning a language, trusting God's blessing as with primitive missionaries, educating replacements for sickness or death; fields open on every side requiring means, language study, prophecy study and labor while opportunity lasts because judgments come, which is being Christlike.
Fulfilling it is the power of missions and fulfills the law that all receive to impart, a divine plan where benevolence circulates and the Christian gains strength by strengthening others with inexpressible blessing; it is realized by simple earnest faith, love and united consecrated sacrifice overcoming opposition and transforming the world.
Christ left baptism as an ordinance for disciples replacing ended ceremonies, received by faith in Jesus who alone takes away sin; at his ascension he left work to believing disciples giving commission to all teaching and working in Jesus' name so every follower shares in saving the lost by revealing what God revealed and valuing entrusted capabilities instead of speculating on what God withheld.
Jesus commands those for whom he gave his life to warn the world, having made them partakers of divine nature escaping lust and having suffered temptation without shunning it; Christians extend his kingdom rapidly from victory to victory until the kingdom under heaven belongs to God's saints forever.

After ascending he left followers to carry forward his work following his self-sacrificing example bringing salvation within reach of all; the church's work carrying truth restrains inclinations to convenience and display, and human agents must plan and work in faith regardless of means, imparting what is available expecting God to multiply.
Followers are appointed as agents to carry the last merciful message to all nations under the Spirit devoting resources, going to those never hearing through ministers and members by practical service as well as preaching, keeping perishing needs before them and seeking open places including great cities.
Men must be raised to open the living oracles to all nations, tongues and peoples, with all ranks and gifts in God-given armor cooperating each in appointment; Christ's workers are to be sent throughout the domain to proclaim a living God and salvation instead of being shut in prison.
Christ's work must reach all parts rather than remain centered, establishing compassionate service; the real work must go everywhere setting boundaries to local work so powers and money serve other lines rather than assuming unassigned debts for orphanages, homes, sanitariums and city works apart from worldwide work.

The commission to make disciples calls for intelligent self-denying effort supported by philanthropists, which God blesses in faithful use of means to reach many needing the Bread of Life; those going to dark places as his representatives receive the most valuable education in that going.
Those teaching and serving should first receive the Spirit and pass on what was received, reaching beyond churches to unpromising places; those going humbly to teach receive the Spirit's quickening help.
Those sharing his Spirit work faithfully in his vineyard not only where they choose, making the commission highest aim; the church advances by dedicating means with converts bringing others while Spirit-filled members work effectively against Satan.
It is fulfilled by educating men and women to publish a crucified and risen Saviour, placing every converted soul under obligation to teach salvation; the great work now is diffusing light town by town with the gospel as foundation of education, teaching Christ as personal Saviour so souls submit and win others.

It gives ministers the work of teaching and seeking sinners, so repeating institutes instead leaves people perishing without truth; taking financial burdens can lead them to neglect this gospel commission.
It requires refusing to let time be taken in lengthy board discussions, meeting controversy by kneeling prayer; it requires devoting time and means to definite mission rather than side issues or unrelated works, and to soul-saving rather than criticizing workers or weakening the church.
It calls followers beyond local churches to all the world presenting the crucified Jesus and winning people to him, hindered by speculation and business ties absorbing energies and keeping truth from darkness.
It calls for carrying knowledge of his mission and salvation to all nations, supporting work in major centers and traveled places when workers present truth wisely; just before ascension he directed going into all the world beginning at Jerusalem, requiring inward Spirit working and labor for those never hearing rather than those knowing truth without benefit, as in Melbourne.

His words assure sufficiency for sharing the gospel and carrying medical work worldwide; understanding includes discerning his methods connected with the medical work he brought into ministry.
It gives the continuing command to carry work forward until complete, obeyed by going to win souls, warning in highways and spending and being spent.
It gives later believers the commission to save the perishing by preaching and making disciples among all nations, doing what they can for those around with Pentecostal power enabling going everywhere with thousands converted.
It gives evangelization to those going in his name continuing his unfinished work by preaching and revealing pitying love through unselfish practical demonstration beyond sermonizing, warning those never hearing the last message rather than preaching to those knowing present truth, using medical work to gain access and prepare for decided proclamation.

It gives a solemn commission to work for all nations with turning sinners from iniquity as great object, done in various ways including decided camp-meeting efforts with short pointed calls for decision, fervent laborers and periodical distribution, with gospel in every tongue to every creature and success to prayerful wisdom seekers as light-bearers.
It gives the pre-ascension commission to proclaim entrusted truth to every nation, applying to those knowing present truth to leave centers for unreached places beginning quietly humbly in Christ's methods with growth to follow; growth advances as every soul follows the Spirit as a burning lamp in different place under Christ's control with provision proved by service, gifts supporting, law magnified, fruit shown and angels aiding the faithful.
It gives the grand commission to every disciple to advance the kingdom now and future, laying individual responsibility not outlined by selfishness nor held by narrow plans and unsanctified power, calling for revival, breaking yokes, awakening to duty seeing harvest ripe, fulfilled in self-sacrifice learning meekness and taking his yoke for rest.
It gives the charge to teach all nations and baptize, whose three distinct personalities pledge power to people and church, with his work under his control through his Spirit; it sends truth into unwarned places extending his kingdom including American cities and calling workers into harvest.

It gives followers work as agents following his humble example, with promise and Spirit convincing the world of sin, the world as field and every believer called, speaking God's words with law as central subject and voices sanctified by the Spirit.
It gives the mission to teach all nations under his authority including baptizing, preaching worldwide, teaching observance and using resources to advance work; it gives the church worldwide mission to make the cross known with faith, courage and sustained effort with the three pledging power and converts becoming workers.
It gives the final invitation as worldwide message to be proclaimed to all nations until the end, with Christ coming in human form to proclaim it and messengers carrying it everywhere working with God relying on the Spirit.
It gives the commission to carry the gospel to all peoples to be studied and obeyed, giving long-neglected nearby fields proportionate ministry instead of leaving scarcely touched, working unentered cities and destitute neighbors in ignorance, poverty and distress who know not Bible and Jesus, cultivating neglected vineyards; neglect through selfish inattention rebukes professed Christianity and claiming fulfillment while the Southern states are undone brings reproach.

It gives the work of carrying the gospel after he leaves, with professed followers responsible for warning and speaking God's words so people know God sent them and heaven marks their work; it gives God's people work the world will not do requiring wakefulness to prepare for the second coming including lifting voice like a trumpet to show transgressions.
It gives the missionary duty to carry truth to every nation calling for willingness to go even to foreign countries to those in darkness; it gives the work of spreading gospel knowledge worldwide which reached every nation within a generation.

It gives Christ's commission to preach to all nations requiring workers and resources to extend near and far into new fields; carrying to all nations requires able messengers and is hindered when means are withheld.
It gives believers soul-winning to carry out rather than leave unwarned, with neglect bringing judgment and participation strengthening faculties; the commission to disciples is also to believers now with neglect a serious failure.
It gives the commission to bear the message to all nations as special work and to repeat lessons to all peoples; it commissions carrying God's word to all nations linked to people's need to hear, and commands proclaiming truth through faithful messengers sent to all parts to teach and make disciples.
