Matthew 9:31

But they, when they were departed, spread abroad his fame in all that country.

Matthew 9:31 belongs to the three miracles of Matthew 9:18-31, performed when Jesus returned across the sea with His disciples to a great crowd waiting to receive Him with joy to hear His teaching and witness His miracles. That crowd included rich and poor, high and low, Pharisees, doctors, lawyers, and many sick and variously afflicted entreating His mercy. Jesus, weary from teaching and healing, had left the multitude to eat in the house of Levi and was pressed about the door and on every side by people begging His attention and aid when Jairus came.

After Jesus restored sight to the two blind men, they departed from Him and spread His fame throughout all that country. They did this despite His instruction and charge not to tell anyone and that no one should know of the healing. They were unable to keep silent.

Their report drew people away from the priests and leaders and toward Christ, so that people turned from them to listen to His teaching. Their report added to the growing attention to Jesus and added to and intensified prejudice against Him. His enemies treated His works of mercy and compassion as an offense and a threat and a wrong against themselves.
