Matthew 9:33

And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.

When the demon was driven out, the man who had been unable to speak began to speak. The multitudes who saw it marveled, declaring that such a work had never been seen in Israel. The miracle was a display of Christ's genuine power and mercy. That display stood in contrast to the conduct of the priests and Pharisees.

It gave the people evidence for faith and helped convince them that He was the promised Messiah. Instead of accepting that evidence, the leading men grew more prejudiced and resistant. They met the work with the false charge that He cast out demons by the prince of demons.

His healing and His wider work among the people was the work of the Holy Spirit, whose converting influence their opposition was not to quench. Their deliberate resistance to the truth led them to blaspheme the Holy Spirit.
