Micah 3:5

Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that make my people err, that bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him.

Thus saith the Lord concerning the prophets exposes the false prophets who make His people err by falsehood and misrepresentation. It means they bite with their teeth and yet cry, Peace, proclaiming peace to those who feed and provide for them, but preparing war against and turning against him that putteth not into their mouths. Their teaching and conduct are predatory and self-serving, serving their own interests rather than God. They are ravening wolves in sheep's clothing whose work is to tear down what God through His agencies is seeking to build up.

The verses that follow declare that God will withdraw their visions and answers, so they lose spiritual light and are left in darkness and shame with no answer from God. The verse belongs to the prophecy of destruction and desolation that will soon come and be universal upon wicked cities. Those Old Testament prophecies are God's word for the last day and will be fulfilled as surely and literally as the desolation of San Francisco was seen. Present calamities are a warning of the fuller punishment to come, for the judgments of God are coming and judgment day is right upon us. All must be ready, because the Son of man cometh in such an hour as ye think not, in an hour not expected.
