Micah 4:10

Be in pain, and labour to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail: for now shalt thou go forth out of the city, and thou shalt dwell in the field, and thou shalt go even to Babylon; there shalt thou be delivered; there the LORD shall redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.

The pangs and labor like a woman in travail are suffering that forces Zion out of the city to dwell in the field and to go even to Babylon in exile. Babylon itself, the place of captivity, is appointed as the very place where she shall be delivered and where the Lord shall redeem her from the hand of her enemies. Hostile nations gather against Zion without knowing the thoughts and purpose of the Lord, and their opposition cannot prevent the deliverance He has promised. That promise stands as assurance to God's church in its hour of greatest peril that God will not fail it nor withhold the promised deliverance. The redemption is joined to the healing of Zion's wounds, the restoration of the dwelling places of Jacob, and the joy of the people in God's salvation.
