Micah 6:15

Thou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and sweet wine, but shalt not drink wine.

Micah 6:15 means labor cut off from its expected reward, sowing without reaping, treading olives without anointing with oil, and making sweet wine without drinking wine. The sowing and the producing of olives and wine go forward, but gathering and enjoying what has been made are denied. In its setting the word belongs to a rebuke of a people who ignored warnings and corrections. The punishments described fall upon those who made light of those warnings and corrections.

The frustrated harvest is the consequence of disobedience. That disobedience is transgression of law and covenant. The verse is also a foretelling of the condition of the world just before the second coming. In that time the same transgression of law and covenant will prevail.

The verse reveals the divine mind against unfair action. What stands condemned is false dealing, falsehood, robbery, and speculation in buying and selling land and in managing institutions. Such dealing takes money from men and women, makes them poor, and causes human suffering, and it is written in the record book in heaven. Those who practice this schooling in unfair dealing ruin their own souls. By it they unfit themselves for the city whose builder and maker is God. They are not to be given church membership until they renounce such dealing, and to do this injustice to even one soul is to do it to Christ Himself.
