Micah 7:12
In that day also he shall come even to thee from Assyria, and from the fortified cities, and from the fortress even to the river, and from sea to sea, and from mountain to mountain. In that day also he shall come even to thee from Assyria, and from the fortified cities, and from the fortress even to the river, and from sea to sea, and from mountain to mountain.
Micah's prophecy was given during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, at the same time as Isaiah. It prophesies very definitely of Christ's coming and holds out wonderful promises to the repentant sinner. The chapter to which the verse belongs outlines the history of the church through to Christ's second coming.
The verse describes the return of God's people from their places of exile, from Assyria and other lands, in the day its walls are rebuilt. That return was fulfilled after the Babylonian captivity, when the Persian king Darius removed the obstacle to rebuilding Jerusalem and the temple, and the decree of Cyrus calling them to return had reached the ten tribes in Assyria as well as the people of Judah. It is placed at the overthrow of Babylon by the Medes, alongside Jeremiah's prophecy that God would bring Israel back to its land. It refers to the return of the saved remnant, representing all twelve tribes, not to a future age. It is also held that the verse shows the gathering of God's people from far and wide just before human probation closes.
