Micah 7:5

Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.

Human friendship and guidance cannot be relied upon for the deliverance and support that belong to God alone. People prove untrustworthy, and even sincere persons who think they are telling the truth can lead others astray out of ignorance and lack of experience. Dependence therefore must be placed on God and on His word in every situation without exception.

The mouth must be kept shut against careless utterance, with the doors of speech carefully guarded. This restraint applies particularly to light and trifling talk and to wicked conversation. Human beings are far too ready to speak, and only grace and faith can give mastery over words.
