For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.
The yoke in the verse means service, the bondage that God breaks and bursts asunder in order to deliver His people. The promise is that God will free His people from oppression and bondage by breaking the yoke from off them and bursting their bonds apart. That yoke and those bonds are Satan's, so the promise is freedom from Satan's yoke and power. As prefigured by the red heifer upon which no yoke had ever come, Christ never came under that yoke of sinful service, for He did no sin and no deceit was found in Him.
The verse stands in a chapter that portrays the Second Advent and the day of God as sublime scenes. That portrayal belongs to a day of preparation for the Advent. It is connected with warning the world of God's judgment.
The deliverance belongs to the time of the announcement of peace, when Judah keeps her appointed feasts and fulfills her vows. Then the faithful are given something better beyond wars and rumors of wars, while the final harvest of wicked sowing is gathered for the flames of final justice. The freeing comes when God makes a complete end of sin so that affliction will never rise again. At that time the wicked are wholly consumed like dry stubble and the adversary is utterly cut off so as never to pass through God's people again.
