Nahum 2:10
She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness. She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.
The verse shows Nineveh after its overthrow as emptied, void, and wasted, a desolation and ruin. Its former inhabitants are gone and its power is gone, so the city is left ruined and uninhabited. This emptying came when its proud and careless security was brought to an end. In that pride and fall Assyria becomes an object lesson for nations that set themselves against God.
It also depicts the terror of the wicked at the appearing of Christ, when hearts melt and knees tremble and shake before His presence. Their faces turn pale with despair. The same melting of heart and shaking of knees marks those who have rejected God's mercy when Jesus appears, with their faces gathering darkness in despair.
