Nahum 2:12

The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin.

The lion is Nineveh itself, exposed as cruel and ravenous. It tore victims in pieces to provide for its whelps and strangled prey for its lionesses. It filled its holes with prey and its dens with torn spoil. The picture sets forth the city's violent, predatory oppression and wickedness.
