Nahum 3:4
Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts. Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.
Nahum's arraignment of Nineveh and its evildoers presents the city as deserving of condemnation, and this verse belongs within that condemnation. The same indictment charges Nineveh with lies, robbery, and violence, and declares that the Lord is against it in judgment. The verse identifies Nineveh as a corrupt, well-favoured harlot and mistress of witchcrafts that sells and ensnares nations through her whoredoms and families through her witchcrafts.
The surrounding passage in Nahum 3:1-7 announces the final destruction of Nineveh. God had first threatened to destroy Nineveh, but its inhabitants repented and the destruction was averted. They afterward turned again to idolatry, their sins reached to heaven, and their destruction came.
