Nahum 3:7
And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee? And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?
God first threatened Nineveh with destruction, but when its inhabitants repented that threatened destruction was averted. Afterward they turned again to idolatry, and their sins reached to heaven until their destruction came. The prophecy describes that final destruction of Nineveh as certain and without comfort after mercy was despised.
It foretells a ruin so complete that all who look upon the city will flee from it. Onlookers will declare Nineveh laid waste, with no one to mourn her and no place to seek comforters for her. This shows that God means what He says and that continued sin brings sure judgment.
