Nehemiah 13:12

Then brought all Judah the tithe of the corn and the new wine and the oil unto the treasuries.

The treasuries were apartments connected with the temple that served as storerooms for the tithes and offerings of the people. The high priest Eliashib had cast out the stored offerings to make a room there for Tobiah the Ammonite, an enemy of God and His truth, an act showing contempt for God. That misapplication of the offerings and profanation of the temple discouraged generosity, weakened zeal, left the treasuries poorly supplied, and forced the singers and others employed in temple service to leave the work of God to labor elsewhere for support.

When Nehemiah returned from Persia he expelled Tobiah, had the chambers cleansed, and restored them to their proper use by bringing back the vessels of the house of God with the grain offering and the frankincense. He gathered the temple workers who had left and set them in their place, so the people regained confidence and all Judah again brought the tithe of grain and new wine and oil into the treasuries. Men counted faithful were then made treasurers over the treasuries, whose office was to distribute to their brethren.
