Nehemiah 13:5
And he had prepared for him a great chamber, where aforetime they laid the meat offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and the offerings of the priests.
The high priest Eliashib prepared the great chamber connected with the temple for Tobiah the Ammonite. He had formed a friendship with Tobiah through intermarriage, though Tobiah was a bitter enemy of Israel, an idolater, and an enemy of God and His truth. The chamber had formerly held the meat offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil commanded to be given to the Levites and the singers and the porters and the priests, and those stored offerings were cast out to make room for Tobiah. Bringing Tobiah into the very precincts of the temple contaminated God's house and defied God's command through Moses forever to shut Ammonites and Moabites out of the congregation because of their cruelty and treachery toward Israel, and conferring such favor on an enemy of God showed the greatest contempt for God. On his return Nehemiah grieved sorely at the bold profanation, cast all of Tobiah's household goods out of the chamber, commanded the chambers to be cleansed, and brought back the vessels of the house of God with the meat offering and the frankincense.
