Nehemiah 3:16
After him repaired Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, the ruler of the half part of Beth-zur, unto the place over against the sepulchres of David, and to the pool that was made, and unto the house of the mighty. Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, ruler of the half part of Beth-zur, repaired a section of Jerusalem's wall extending to the place opposite the sepulchres of David and to the pool that was made and to the house of the mighty. This work belonged to the building of the wall at Jerusalem after Nehemiah had arrived safely with royal letters to the governors along his route that secured honorable reception and prompt assistance, and with a military escort that showed the importance of his mission. His arrival stirred the jealousy of the nearby heathen tribes and brought critical watching by Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite and Geshem the Arabian, who sought to thwart his plans and hinder his work. The rebuilding of the wall and its gates stands as an example of restoring Zion and strengthening its defenses.
