Nehemiah 3:31

After him repaired Malchiah the goldsmith’s son unto the place of the Nethinims, and of the merchants, over against the gate Miphkad, and to the going up of the corner.

Nehemiah's journey to Jerusalem was undertaken with royal letters and a military escort, and was followed by the rebuilding of Jerusalem's wall to whose account this verse belongs. That wall-building work excited jealousy and close-watching opposition from Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian. Within that work this verse records repair on a section by the Miphkad gate. The rebuilding of Zion's gates and walls represents a needed reformation and a defense for the people.
