Nehemiah 7:27

The men of Anathoth, an hundred twenty and eight.

The renewed numbering of the Jews recorded in Nehemiah 7, to which the reckoning of the men of Anathoth at one hundred twenty-eight belongs, was made in 444 B.C. It came after the wall was finished in fifty-two days in spite of plots. It came after proper officers and watches were appointed.

That numbering stands within the Bible's account of life in the days of Ezra and Nehemiah. That account is confirmed by discoveries in ancient lands adjoining Israel that had dealings with Israel.
