Nehemiah 9:22
Moreover thou gavest them kingdoms and nations, and didst divide them into corners: so they possessed the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan. Moreover thou gavest them kingdoms and nations, and didst divide them into corners: so they possessed the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.
Moreover He gave them kingdoms and nations and divided and apportioned them for them, so that they possessed the land of Sihon and the land of the king of Heshbon and the land of Og king of Bashan. In Nehemiah 9 this gift is recounted together with His other works in behalf of His people as evidence of His goodness and of His gracious and merciful dealings. The chapter sets those mercies against the rebellion, ingratitude, and turning away of the people from God.
Their sins separated them from God, and He permitted them to be brought under the control of heathen nations, thereby demonstrating to a people for whom He had done so much that He would not serve with their sins. The same pattern appears in later history, in which He likewise graciously led His people and gave them great favors which they failed to appreciate, yet He did not forsake them altogether. The record of these gracious dealings with rebellious Israel is to be presented to the people as occasion requires, to stand boldly in defense of the truth and to press for decided reformation among those in positions of influence.
