Numbers 10:17
And the tabernacle was taken down; and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set forward, bearing the tabernacle. And the tabernacle was taken down; and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari set forward, bearing the tabernacle.
The tabernacle was taken down in preparation for Israel's journey forward. Once dismantled, its parts were borne onward by the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari. Assigning that carrying work to those families was part of God's orderly arrangement for moving the camp. The sacred tabernacle was not to be carried indiscriminately by any who chose, but only by those appointed to it.
