Numbers 10:31

And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee; forasmuch as thou knowest how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou mayest be to us instead of eyes.

The words are Moses urging Hobab, his brother-in-law, not to leave Israel on its wilderness journey but to remain with them. Hobab was a Kenite who accompanied Israel through the wilderness and gave valuable help because he knew the country and how they should encamp, so Moses wanted him to stay as a guide and to be as eyes for them. The Kenites were worshipers of God and friendly to Israel, though not wholly free from idolatry. Because of that friendship and help, the Kenites who lived among the Amalekites were afterward spared when destruction came upon the Amalekites, showing that God remembers mercy while inflicting judgment.

The appeal belongs to an invitation to join Israel and share in the good the Lord had promised and would give them. The verse thus supplies words for inviting those who have become interested in the truth and wish to give themselves to the Lord, urging them to come with God's people with the promise that whatever goodness the Lord does to His people will be shared with them. It calls seekers to decide to place themselves wholly on the Lord's side and to take courage to receive and live the truth, with welcome and shared blessing among believers.
