Moses Holds Up Aaron's Budded Rodby emmanuel_higgins

Numbers 17:8

And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

The rod was Aaron's, for the house of Levi, and it budded and brought forth buds and bloomed blossoms and yielded almonds. God miraculously caused this to happen overnight, by the next morning, in one night. The sign was mercifully given after rebellion over the priesthood persisted despite the deaths of its leaders and of 14,700 who had joined them.

By clearly distinguishing Aaron's rod from the others, the budding showed God's choice of Aaron and his house and family for the priesthood, settling the dispute and the doubts over who had authority to serve as priests. The miracle was meant to end and silence the Israelites' complaints and doubts. The rod was shown to the people and kept in the tabernacle as a lasting witness and reminder of God's choice to later generations and as a warning against renewed rebellion.

In the heavenly sanctuary the rod is preserved as Aaron's and is seen bearing these signs of life.
