Numbers 21:11
And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ije-abarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising. And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ije-abarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.
The journey from Oboth to the encampment at Ije-abarim in the wilderness facing Moab toward the sunrise belongs to that portion of the wilderness wandering when Israel murmured against the bread sent down from heaven. That murmuring took place in the midst of a standing weekly miracle, for the manna was given every week for forty years. That unbroken provision for forty years bore public testimony to the Sabbath, marking the day by its withholding and its doubling.
Yet to the body of the Hebrews this continual miracle had become a mere ordinary event, no longer regarded with wonder. Their complaint against the heavenly bread therefore revealed a heart hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. It showed how little regard they had for the testimony which the manna bore in behalf of the Sabbath.
