Balak kept taking Balaam from one place to another in the vain hope that he would change Israel's blessing into a curse. The moment came at Mount Peor, when Balaam lifted up his eyes and looked over Israel abiding in tents according to their tribes. As he gazed on the encamped tribes, the Spirit of God came upon him.
On this occasion he did not resort to sorcery to seek God's will. Instead the Spirit Himself gave him the divine message that followed. That message foretold Israel's prosperity, so that the blessing could not be turned into a curse.
