Numbers 24:6

As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river’s side, as the trees of lign aloes which the LORD hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters.

The verse belongs to the blessing pronounced over Israel which Balak wanted turned into a curse, and no human pressure could overturn what God had blessed. It pictures Israel's tents and encampment spread forth like valleys and like gardens by the river's side, like lign-aloes which the Lord has planted and like cedar trees beside the waters, beautiful, fertile, abundant and flourishing. The spreading encampment is presented as well-ordered. It is the imagery of a people settled and cared for under God's blessing, dwelling beneath His presence that protects and guides the camp. That flourishing looks forward to Israel's settlement in Canaan and to its eventual triumph over those who try to subdue it.

The lign-aloes are fragrant sandalwood. The cedar, with its strength, firmness and enduring life, represents the righteous in every age and their flourishing strength and enduring life. It grows in varied conditions, withstands hardship, and stays green when other trees perish.

The righteous life pictured by the cedar is hidden with Christ in God. Those who humbly walk with God hold a higher rank in His sight than kings or princes. The cedar's royal standing shows Heaven's high regard for those who do God's will.
