Numbers 24:8

God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.

God himself brought Israel forth out of Egypt. He gave them prosperity and great strength, like the strength of a powerful wild beast. Endowed with that strength they would eat up the nations that opposed them as enemies, break their power and shatter their resistance, pierce them through with arrows, and triumph over them, so that attempts to subdue them would fail. That eating and bone-breaking imagery describes the conquest of Canaan, which the Moabites understood as a declaration of Israel's eventual triumph.

They would subdue their foes on condition of faithfulness to God. The blessing upon them could not be changed into a curse, despite repeated efforts to have them cursed by moving to another place, as Balak repeatedly moved Balaam to another place. The prophecy also exalts Israel's king, the Son of God, above earthly kingdoms, and foretells that his throne will one day be established on earth. The blessed people of Israel thus picture the righteous in every age, whose honor before God is greater than that of kings and princes.
