Numbers 27:12
And the LORD said unto Moses, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given unto the children of Israel. And the LORD said unto Moses, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and see the land which I have given unto the children of Israel.
God directed Moses to go up Mount Abarim and see the land of Canaan which He had given to the children of Israel, as a view granted before Moses' death. Moses was to view the land even though he himself would not enter it or lead Israel into it. The command exemplifies submission to God's will in accepting that outcome.
The passage beginning with this direction has God instruct Moses to set apart Joshua for his work. By that appointment His work would continue through the appointed leader after Moses. In this continuation, human failure could not thwart God's purpose.
