The Daughters of Zelophehad Receive Their Inheritanceby emmanuel_higgins

Numbers 27:3

Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah; but died in his own sin, and had no sons.

Zelophehad died in the wilderness in his own sin and left no sons. He had not belonged to those who gathered themselves together against the Lord in the company and rebellion of Korah. That distinction separates his death from that organized defiance and places it upon his own personal guilt. Those facts open the way for his daughters to press their claim to their father's property, so the chapter takes up the inheritance rights of women. The verse also teaches submission to God's will.
