Daughters of Zelophehad Appeal to Mosesby emmanuel_higgins

Numbers 27:4

Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father.

The daughters of Zelophehad pleaded that their father's name should not be done away from among his family because he had no son, and asked for a possession to be given them among their father's brothers and relatives. Their request was a question of the inheritance of daughters, a subject further dealt with by the laws in Numbers 36. In this, women's rights were guarded in the inheritance laws of Israel.
