The verse belongs to the account of the divisions of the Levites. It records the Merarites numbered by males from a month old and upward as six thousand and two hundred. Those Merarites so counted camped on the north side of the tabernacle. They were assigned responsibility for the pillars, sockets, boards and related parts of the tabernacle.
