Numbers 3:36
And under the custody and charge of the sons of Merari shall be the boards of the tabernacle, and the bars thereof, and the pillars thereof, and the sockets thereof, and all the vessels thereof, and all that serveth thereto, And under the custody and charge of the sons of Merari shall be the boards of the tabernacle, and the bars thereof, and the pillars thereof, and the sockets thereof, and all the vessels thereof, and all that serveth thereto,
The custody and charge of the sons of Merari was the structural frame and fittings of the tabernacle — its boards, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, its vessels, and everything that served with them. They held this as their own distinct work within the wider charge of the Levites over the tabernacle, and their camping place was on the north side. That charge embraced both keeping these parts in camp and bearing them when the sacred tent was taken up and moved. By this division the verse establishes that each worker is to do the duties appointed to him and leave the duties of others alone.
