If a woman also vow a vow unto the LORD, and bind herself by a bond, being in her father’s house in her youth;
The instruction about vows is given alongside offerings, and this verse identifies one of the situations that instruction covers. The situation is that of a young woman still in her youth in her father's house, binding herself by a vow to the Lord within the setting of her father's household. In so doing she stands in a vow relation between herself and her father.
A vow made to the Lord in this way creates a binding obligation that must be faithfully kept. This is one of the only cases in Scripture where a person can be released from a vow to God, in that her vow may become void under the circumstances given in the chapter. The verse therefore calls each reader to examine himself with the question whether he is faithfully keeping his vows.
