Young Woman Speaks Her Vow Before Her Fatherby emmanuel_higgins

Numbers 30:5

But if her father disallow her in the day that he heareth; not any of her vows, or of her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand: and the LORD shall forgive her, because her father disallowed her.

Vows made to God have binding force and must be faithfully kept. A father may disallow his daughter's vow or binding obligation by which she has bound her soul, if he does so in the day that he hears of it. Then not any of it stands or continues to bind her, and the Lord forgives her because her father disallowed her. This is one of the only circumstances in which a person is released from a vow to God, applying to a father and his daughter while she is yet in her youth in her father's house and defining under what circumstances such a vow becomes void. The question for each reader to put to himself is whether he is faithfully keeping his vows. When the provision is brought into connection with a wife cooking swine's flesh for her husband, it does not establish her guilt or her exemption under that circumstance.
