Numbers 31:11

And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts.

The verse stands in the record of Israel's war against Midian, marking the taking of all the spoil and all the prey, both of men and of beasts. The war was a judgment commanded by God against those who had led Israel into sin, carried out by the Israelites as His instruments. In executing it they acted not to satisfy malice or revenge, but to obey God and uphold His glory.

The command was promptly obeyed. That obedience resulted in the defeat of Midian, including the deaths of its kings and of Balaam. The campaign was a near-destruction of the Midianites in the time of Moses, after which they later grew numerous and powerful again.
