Numbers 34:15
The two tribes and the half tribe have received their inheritance on this side Jordan near Jericho eastward, toward the sunrising. The two tribes and the half tribe have received their inheritance on this side Jordan near Jericho eastward, toward the sunrising.
The two tribes and the half tribe had received their inheritance on the east side of the Jordan near Jericho toward the sunrise, leaving the land west of the Jordan to be apportioned among the remaining tribes. The whole of that western land, both the parts already conquered and that which was yet unsubdued, was to be divided by lot under Joshua together with Eleazar the high priest and the heads of the tribes. Moses had fixed beforehand the bounds of the country as it was to be divided when Israel came into possession of Canaan, and had appointed a prince from each tribe to attend to the distribution. The tribe of Levi was not counted in this allotment because it was devoted to sanctuary service, but forty-eight cities in different parts of the country were assigned to the Levites as their inheritance. It was the duty of each tribe to fully subdue its own inheritance, and if the people proved faithful to God He would drive out their enemies from before them and give them still greater possessions as He had promised in His covenant.
