Numbers 34:8
From mount Hor ye shall point out your border unto the entrance of Hamath; and the goings forth of the border shall be to Zedad: From mount Hor ye shall point out your border unto the entrance of Hamath; and the goings forth of the border shall be to Zedad:
The northern line described here was part of a complete boundary fixed in advance for the land of Canaan exactly as it was to be apportioned among the tribes upon their coming into possession of it. Its actual distribution was entrusted to Joshua acting together with Eleazar the high priest and the heads of the tribes, with one prince appointed from each tribe to attend to the work, and the precise location of each tribe to be settled by lot. Levi had no share in that territorial allotment because the whole tribe was set apart for sanctuary service, receiving instead forty-eight cities scattered in different parts of the country as its inheritance.
