Numbers 36:4

And when the jubile of the children of Israel shall be, then shall their inheritance be put unto the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.

Numbers 36:4 stands in the closing chapters of Numbers, among laws concerning heiresses. It belongs to the instructions about the marriage of heiresses in Numbers 35 and 36, which also give instructions about the cities given to the tribe of Levi and laws about murder, closing Numbers before the rehearsal of the law in Deuteronomy. The verse concerns laws protecting the inheritance of daughters who inherited land.

At the Jubilee, inherited land that had passed to another tribe through the marriage of an heiress would become part of the inheritance of the tribe into which she married. That land inherited by a daughter who married into another tribe would pass to the tribe of her husband, and would be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of her fathers. This restriction on transferring inherited land from tribe to tribe shows that the Jubilee's land laws governed tribal inheritance and were in force.
