Numbers 36:7
So shall not the inheritance of the children of Israel remove from tribe to tribe: for every one of the children of Israel shall keep himself to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers. So shall not the inheritance of the children of Israel remove from tribe to tribe: for every one of the children of Israel shall keep himself to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.
The inheritance of the children of Israel was not to move from tribe to tribe, but each man was to hold fast to the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers. Land belonging to a tribe could not be permanently alienated by sale or exchange so as to pass into the possession of another tribe. Naboth's refusal to give his vineyard to Ahab was obedience to this requirement, because the vineyard was his ancestral inheritance which he was bound to keep.
