Numbers 4:12
And they shall take all the instruments of ministry, wherewith they minister in the sanctuary, and put them in a cloth of blue, and cover them with a covering of badgers’ skins, and shall put them on a bar: And they shall take all the instruments of ministry, wherewith they minister in the sanctuary, and put them in a cloth of blue, and cover them with a covering of badgers’ skins, and shall put them on a bar:
Numbers 4:12 belongs to God's ordered arrangement for transporting the tabernacle and its sacred furnishings when Israel journeyed. It stands within the directions for the Levites' transport of the tabernacle, assigning the work of moving its holy objects to appointed men rather than leaving it to be done indiscriminately. The instruments of ministry used in sanctuary service were to be put in a cloth of blue, covered with a protective covering of skins, and placed on a bar for carrying.
That carrying was entrusted to the Levites, and specifically the Kohathites had as their special duty the care of the ark and the other furniture of the sanctuary. Their assigned service was to handle the sacred implements, carefully cover and prepare them, and carry them when Israel journeyed. The articles were to be carefully wrapped, covered, and handled only according to specific directions, not touched or moved at will.
The Levites' care reached both to camp and to travel, for they took down and carried the tabernacle and its sacred articles when journeying and dismantled and set up the tent when the camp moved or stopped. This precise order reflected the careful order God established for worship. It protected the holiness of the sanctuary and taught Israel to treat what is holy with reverence.
