Numbers 4:32
And the pillars of the court round about, and their sockets, and their pins, and their cords, with all their instruments, and with all their service: and by name ye shall reckon the instruments of the charge of their burden. And the pillars of the court round about, and their sockets, and their pins, and their cords, with all their instruments, and with all their service: and by name ye shall reckon the instruments of the charge of their burden.
When Israel journeyed, the Levites were assigned to take down, set up, and carry the tabernacle and to handle its sacred furnishings, with its parts and equipment committed to designated persons rather than left to anyone who chose to take them. The Merarites' burden was the pillars of the court round about, with their sockets and the related fittings and equipment belonging to them. That charge specifically included the pins, the cords, and all the instruments and all the service and work connected with the pillars.
Boards are also listed as part of that responsibility. The instruments of the charge were to be reckoned by name to each man, carefully counted, listed, and assigned as his burden, with the parts allotted to designated persons. This arrangement shows God's concern for precise order in worship and journeying, requiring each worker to know and faithfully do his own assigned duties without taking over another's, so that God's work is not done indiscriminately or in confusion.
