Numbers 5:24

And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water that causeth the curse: and the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter.

The verse describes the jealousy offering in which a priest causes a wife suspected of adultery to drink the bitter water that brings a curse, which enters into her and becomes bitter. The ritual was appointed for exposing hidden sin where a husband had suspicion but no direct evidence. If the woman was guilty, the water brought on a condition leading to a swift and terrible death, while if she was innocent it caused her no harm.

Read rightly, the chapter containing the verse shows God's abhorrence of sin. It warns people to shun sin's destructive course and fearful end.
